In a unexpected partnership that challenges usual predictions, the game developer has announced an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Uncovered

According to the authorized announcement, "A strange meeting leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of forbidden practices and fearsome changes echo through the obscurity." The storyline introduces a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden sect.

The mission centers on "bizarre tests and a monstrous enemy" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Transformations

The trailer highlights the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser ends with a dramatic moment showing a character, probably the hostage, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Prizes and Extra Material

Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an special katana alongside multiple artifacts hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, offering:

Third Free Story Content

This release also adds the game's third free story episode, titled "The Mystery." This playful quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe reveals a theatrical interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

This signifies hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime franchises. The series previously showcased a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
