19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

He rescued four early-game chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
